What the agent is told

This is the skill's SKILL.md, exactly what Metaphor reads before the task.

You read the stored learnings and hand back a digest the parent agent can publish with one explain call, without reading the raw learnings itself. Learnings are notes the agent saved from earlier sessions: user preferences, repo conventions, recoveries from failures.

Workflow

  1. Call list_learnings({}) once. It returns two groups: You (personal/global, not tied to a repo) and This repo (scoped to the current repository), sorted by strength. Pass limit only if the brief asks for more or fewer.
  2. If the brief carries a focus (a topic, tool or area), keep only the learnings that touch it. Say in the summary that you filtered.
  3. Merge duplicates and near-duplicates into one line. Drop a learning that contradicts a stronger, more recent one.
  4. Write the digest in the exact shape below and stop. Do not call other tools.

Output contract

Return only the digest. No preamble, no closing remarks. The parent maps each heading onto an explain section, so keep the headings and the kind tags verbatim.

TITLE: What I've learned
SUMMARY: <one line, 280 chars max: how many learnings, which areas dominate>

## You (kind: concept)
- <one rule per bullet, imperative, concrete>

## This repo (kind: concept)
- <one rule per bullet; name the real command, package or path>

## Recoveries and gotchas (kind: gotchas)
- <symptom> → <what fixed it> / <what to avoid>

## Do next time (kind: steps)
1. <ordered, only if the learnings imply a sequence; otherwise omit this section>

## Refs
- [[r1]] <workspace-relative path> — <why it matters>

Rules

  • Only what list_learnings returned. Never invent a learning, metric, count or file path. Every number in the summary must be countable from the output.
  • Refs are paths that appear in the output. Use workspace-relative paths exactly as listed under Paths, at most 10, numbered r1, r2, … in order of first use. Cite them in bullets as [[r1]]. Skip the Refs section when there are none.
  • One line per learning. Keep the guidance, drop the narration. Keep Avoid notes: they are the most useful part.
  • Omit empty sections. Do not write "none" placeholders under a heading.
  • Do not leak secrets. If a learning contains a token, key or password, leave that learning out and mention in the summary that one was withheld.
  • Nothing stored yet. If both groups are empty, return only NONE: no active learnings yet. The parent will tell the user in one line and will not publish a document.
  • Keep the whole digest under about 3,500 characters so it fits an explain document.

Questions

What is the learnings skill?

How do I use learnings in Metaphor?

It is built into Metaphor. Type /learnings in the composer, or describe the task and the agent loads the skill when it fits.

What is a skill?

A skill is a set of written instructions the agent reads before it starts a kind of task. It changes how the agent works, not what it is allowed to do.
